Pierre Leads Marlin Rout

Juan Pierre had three of Florida’s 15 hits, Paul Lo Duca had a two-run single, and the Marlins defeated the Chicago Cubs, 11-1, Sunday at Wrigley Field.

The Marlins remained 2 1/2 games behind leader San Francisco in the National League wild-card standings. The Cubs dropped one game behind the Giants.

Florida is staying in Chicago to play at least two games against Montreal at U.S. Cellular Field, home of the White Sox, beginning today.

The games were moved from Miami because of the threat of Hurricane Ivan. The Marlins will be the home team.

Houston 5, Pittsburgh 4 -- Pinch-hitter Jason Lane’s double drove in Eric Brunlett, who also had doubled, in the 10th inning and the Astros rallied after being held hitless by Dave Williams for six innings at Pittsburgh.

San Diego 15, Colorado 2 -- Brian Giles hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the eighth inning, then capped a 12-run ninth with a three-run homer at Denver.

Giles reached 20 homers for the sixth consecutive season.

Philadelphia 4, New York 2 -- Vicente Padilla (6-7) pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings and the Phillies completed a three-game sweep at New York.

Atlanta 9, Montreal 8 -- Andruw Jones’ double in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted the Braves after closer John Smoltz blew a three-run lead in the ninth.

Milwaukee 11, Cincinnati 0 -- Russell Branyan homered twice against his former team at Cincinnati.
