Arriaran Is Parade Player of the Year

Erika Arriaran of Norco has been selected national girls’ basketball player of the year by Parade Magazine.
Arriaran, a 5-foot-10 guard who signed with Texas, averaged 17.2 points, 8.6 rebounds and 7.0 assists to lead Norco to a 28-1 record.
She was the only Southland girl in this year’s McDonald’s All-American game. She scored seven points for the West in an 80-64 victory over the East. She also won the girls’ three-point shooting contest.
Ashlee Trebilcock of Newhall Hart was selected to the second team. Trebilcock, a 5-9 guard, has committed to UCLA.
The full list of All-American players will appear in Parade on Sunday.
Amir Johnson, a 6-10 center who led Westchester to the state Division I boys’ basketball championship, has been selected the state player of the year by Cal-Hi Sports magazine.
The Louisville-bound senior was dominant in the playoffs, as he consistently topped his averages of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson was a second-team Parade All-American.
Two series of all-star games are scheduled over the next two weeks, beginning April 16 with the Orange County All-Star games, sponsored by the Costa Mesa Kiwanis Club and PlyoCity, at Orange Coast College. The girls’ game is at 6 p.m. with the boys’ game at 8.
The ninth Battle of the Valley All-Star games will take place April 23 at Cal State Northridge. The girls’ game begins at 5 p.m. and the boys’ game will follow at 7.
