Man Posing as Security Worker Is Sentenced
A Rancho Cucamonga attorney who in April 2003 posed as a Homeland Security employee so he could buy a discounted airline ticket at John Wayne Airport in Orange County on Monday was sentenced to 81 months in federal prison.
James Davis, 51, had been convicted of impersonating a federal agent, carrying a gun onto an airplane, tax evasion, witness tampering and other federal charges.
Along with the incident at John Wayne Airport, Davis in June 2002 tried to board a plane at Ontario International Airport with a concealed, loaded handgun, and claimed that the U.S. Customs service had authorized him to carry the weapon aboard the plane.
He was not allowed to take the firearm aboard.
The tax evasion and witness-tampering convictions stemmed from an investigation into his business.
