Government Frees 336 Detained in Protests

Ethiopia has freed 336 detainees seized in a crackdown after clashes with police over elections that left 36 people dead, officials said.
More people will be freed, government spokesman Zemedkun Teckle said. Human rights organizations said thousands had been arrested. Police have not given a figure.
The main opposition group, the Coalition for Unity and Democracy, has said up to 120 of its staff had been jailed. Ethiopia’s main human rights group has said three of its members were arrested.
