Light Rain Is Possible Today Through Friday

From a Times Staff Writer

There’s a slight -- 20% to 40% -- chance of light rain in downtown Los Angeles tonight, Thursday and Friday, with a break Saturday before more scattered showers Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said that about a quarter to a half an inch of rain could fall. But that amount would bring downtown Los Angeles within an inch of the all-time record for a meteorological season, which runs from July 1 through June 30. That record is 38.18 inches and was set in 1883-84. As of Tuesday night, the total this season was 37.06 inches.

Forecasters said the rain would come from two modest storms that should amble south along the coast before turning inland over central California.

Most of the precipitation is expected north of Santa Barbara.

Skies should remain mostly cloudy throughout the period, with high temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s.
