Boot misplaces blame and insults the military

Re “A general disgrace,” Opinion, April 19
Searching for someone to blame for the debacle known as the war in Iraq, Max Boot distributes the blame between the U.S. military brass and their civilian bosses. Boot conveniently forgets to mention the true architects of this geopolitical train wreck -- neocons like himself.

Boot reaches the height of arrogance when he states that the military should have a say in “how to wage war, not when to wage it.” Those who lay their lives on the line to defend us have as much right to speak their minds about when it is appropriate to go to war as the politicians and journalists who talk tough but are content to send others to do the fighting and dying.
