Walker Is Traded to the Broncos

Receiver Javon Walker got what he wanted Saturday -- a ticket out of Green Bay and the groundwork for a new contract.

The Packers traded Walker, who had threatened to retire rather than play for the team in 2006, to the Denver Broncos for a second-round pick.

The Broncos and Walker agreed to parameters for a six-year contract extension, Bronco Coach Mike Shanahan said.

Walker, coming off a serious knee injury as he enters the final year of his contract, said last month that he wanted to be traded.

St. Louis Ram General Manager Charley Armey was hospitalized after complaining of shortness of breath and rapid heartbeat. Armey was expected to be hospitalized overnight.... Green Bay’s Donald Driver said he will be at the team’s mini-camp Friday and is not planning any contract holdout, contradicting an ESPN report that said the receiver had asked the team to restructure his contract or trade him.... Receiver Kelley Washington agreed to a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The three competing groups presenting their stadium proposals to NFL owners in Dallas this week will first receive an endorsement from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who plans to attend the meeting along with representatives from the Coliseum, Anaheim and the Rose Bowl.

Schwarzenegger is expected to talk on behalf of the state of California, not any particular stadium proposal.
