Driver, 77, Runs Into Mosque Crowd; 11 Hurt
A 77-year-old man accidentally drove his car into a crowd of people leaving Friday afternoon prayers at a mosque, police said.
Eleven people were injured, one seriously, when the unidentified driver lost control while making a turn in the parking lot of the Afghan Refugee Islamic Center, police said.
The driver was going to the mosque and police do not believe the crash was intentional. No charges were pending against him, Sgt. Corey Quinn said.
“It’s a small parking lot that routinely is packed full of people on their day of worship, and it gets very tight in there,” said Hayward Police Lt. Keith Bryan.
