From Times wire reports
Firearms are kept unlocked in nearly half of U.S. gun-owning households with adolescent children, and some of those are loaded and unlocked, researchers report.
Roughly one-third of American households with children have at least one gun, and a Harvard University analysis of nearly 400 gun owners surveyed in 2004 found the firearm was unlocked in 42% of homes in which children were 13 or older.
The gun was loaded in 26% of the homes with teenagers and loaded and unlocked in 10% of those homes.
