A man suspected of impersonating a police officer during the kidnapping and attempted rape of a Whittier woman was arrested Friday in Tennessee, authorities said.
Anthony Ray Willis, 35, was in jail in Unicoi County, Tenn., awaiting extradition to California after being arrested at the home of a cousin, said Fullerton police Sgt. Linda King.
Willis is believed to have identified himself as a police officer to a 21-year-old woman in a Fullerton parking lot on Commonwealth Avenue early Jan. 14. He allegedly dragged her to a van and drove 30 miles to Trabuco Canyon, where he attempted to rape her.
The woman escaped, King said.
