Costume Designer Goes After Third Win on Inglewood Turf
Costume Designer returns to her favorite track when she faces five opponents in the seventh race today at Hollywood Park.
Winless in seven starts at Santa Anita and Del Mar, the 5-year-old Capote mare is two for two on the turf course in Inglewood, so she is probably the one to beat in the $51,000 optional claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs.
Owned by George Krikorian and trained by John Shirreffs, Costume Designer beat maidens by three lengths in her introduction to the local lawn July 16, 2004.
About four months later, she won again, winning an allowance race by two lengths under Jon Court.
Fourth and third in two starts at Santa Anita to begin her 2006 campaign, Costume Designer will have a new rider today when David Flores becomes the sixth jockey to pilot the dark bay mare.
Ugotadowhatugotado will try for her second victory on the Hollywood Park turf course. A .450 hitter lifetime with nine victories in 20 starts, the 5-year-old Jazzing Around mare will be ridden by apprentice Juan Ochoa. The Washington bred is owned by Bob Bone and trained by Jeff Mullins.
Completing the field will be Dynalook, who is one for 11 on the turf; Dominiques Darling, who has never started on the course at Hollywood Park; Dancing Rose; and Fire Bolt, a recent $62,500 claim by trainer Steve Knapp for owner Michael Miller.
Race of the day: Nicole’s Dream is back to defend her title in the $100,000 Mamzelle today at Churchill Downs.
Eddie Martin Jr. will ride the 6-year-old Northern Trend mare for Dare To Dream Stable LLC and trainer Larry Rivelli in the race at five furlongs on turf. She has won 20 of 43 and is two for five on the Churchill Downs turf course.
One for the road: High Finance crushed maidens April 15 at Keeneland and can come right back as the controlling speed in the fifth race at Belmont Park.
Eibar Coa will ride the 3-year-old Talk Is Money colt for West Point Stable and trainer Rick Violette Jr. in the $46,000 allowance at one mile.
Exotically speaking: A trifecta in the fourth keying Early Ronan on top with Ultimate Summer, Brass In Pocket, Tavern On Rush and Court Seeker in the two hole and all in the third spot.
Winners: (previous day/meet total): 3/13. Money: (previous day/meet total): $10.40/$89.60. Total money bet: $104.
