Aide can’t confirm rumors Alarcon wants to return to City Council seat
An aide to state Sen. Richard Alarcon, who was elected to the state Assembly this week, said Friday he could not address widespread speculation that his boss wants to return to the City Council seat he held in the 1990s.
Alarcon, who held the 7th District seat in the East San Fernando Valley from 1993 to 1999, could run again under a measure voters approved this week allowing council members to serve for three four-year terms instead of two.
As rumors circulated that Alarcon might run for the seat during a special election next year, he could not be reached for comment.
But his spokesman, Luis Patino, wouldn’t rule anything out.
“I’m not in a position to confirm or deny your question,” Patino said.
