Authorities recovered a body -- the victim of an apparent drowning reported last week -- late Saturday from the Los Angeles River.
Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Karen Smith said an acquaintance of the victim reported that the man had fallen into the river days earlier near the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area, but rescuers could not locate him. On Saturday others reported seeing a body in the river, and a dive team recovered it near Woodley Avenue and Burbank Boulevard.
The name of the victim was not released, although he was believed to have been a 32-year-old transient. Smith said that the drowning appears to have been accidental.
