Man’s body discovered in burning car’s trunk
From Times Staff Reports
Police found the body of a 35-year-old man in a car that had been set on fire, authorities said Saturday.
The body of James Anthony Cortez was discovered Friday night in the trunk of the burning Dodge sedan in the 5700 block of Pioneer Boulevard by police and firefighters.
Cortez had been shot twice in the abdomen, and the coroner’s office will determine if he was dead before the fire was set, said Whittier police spokesman Jason Zuhlke.
The death is being investigated as a homicide.
