Picking Martinez is ‘pragmatic’
Re “Conservatives wary of Bush pick for RNC,” Nov. 15
President Bush’s support for a moderate Latino to lead the Republican Party is far from a “Harriet Myers moment.” Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) is a pragmatic choice based on long-term demographics -- Latinos are a growing segment of the American electorate. Social conservatives are not.
