Plates serve a mixed message

RE “The Scout” [Nov. 16]: I was dismayed to read under “Innovations” about a “stylish solution to the standard paper plates” that they are considered “recyclable” at the same time being disposable. This sends a mixed message to confused consumers who want to do the right thing. And who is actually going to rinse frosting or spaghetti sauce from a disposable plate so it’s ready for the blue bin? As a country that gobbles up one-fourth of the world’s diminishing resources -- including trees -- this is irresponsible and misleading.
