Bryan Jones, 49; longtime disc jockey in San Diego and Fresno

Bryan Jones, 49, a disc jockey who helped define the alternative rock sound of 91X-FM radio in San Diego during the 1980s, died Nov. 16, according to the Neptune Society of Central California.

Jones, who grew up in Fresno and began his radio career there, died of a heart attack at his home in the city. He returned to Fresno last year and worked for KALZ-FM.

Paired first with Dean Opperman and later with Katy Manor, Jones anchored the morning drive time slot for 91X over several stints at the station.

He gradually built a loyal following among listeners for his comedy routines and fervor for new music.

Jones also worked as a disc jockey for an alternative rock station in Seattle as well as a music programmer for the digital music website www.mp3.com.

Hassan Gouled Aptidon, who ruled Djibouti for 22 years after the country gained independence from France in 1977, died Tuesday at his home in Djibouti, his family announced. The cause of death was not reported. He was 90.
