Hurricanes’ Bad Start Continues

Gary Roberts and Olli Jokinen scored twice to help the host Florida Panthers beat the Carolina Hurricanes, 6-3, Wednesday night, keeping the defending Stanley Cup champions winless.
Carolina fell to 0-3-1 and has been outscored, 18-7.
Florida has scored a franchise-best 14 goals in its first two home games, but has scored only once in two road games.
Atlanta 4, Boston 1 -- Kari Lehtonen set a team record of 167 minutes 56 seconds for shutout minutes before giving up a goal and the host Thrashers won their third in a row.
Detroit 9, Phoenix 2 -- Mathieu Schneider had three goals and an assist to lift the Red Wings at Detroit.
Montreal 3, Philadelphia 1 -- David Aebischer stopped 27 shots, and Michael Ryder and Alex Kovalev scored goals to lead the visiting Canadiens.

Detroit center Greg Johnson, 35, retired after being diagnosed with an hereditary heart abnormality during camp.... Minnesota Coach Jacques Lemaire, in the final year of his contract, signed a multiyear extension.
