Casting change: Tenor Christian Franz will sing the role of Tristan in the L.A. Philharmonic’s performance of “The Tristan Project” at Walt Disney Concert Hall tonight, replacing Alan Woodrow, who withdrew because of illness.

New music prize: Paul Simon has been chosen to receive the first Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, created to recognize “the profound and positive effect of popular music on the world’s culture.” He’ll be honored at a concert in Washington on May 23, which will be taped for broadcast on PBS.
