2 killed, 1 missing after plane crashes off coast
Two people were killed and a third was missing Sunday after a small airplane crashed into the ocean about a mile off the coast, authorities said.
A witness called the Coast Guard at 9:48 a.m. to report a small plane going into the water, said Petty Officer Anastasia Devlin.
Searchers from two Coast Guard cutters and a helicopter found a debris field and recovered two bodies, Devlin said.
A third person remained missing Sunday night.
Authorities said the Cessna plane apparently broke into pieces when it hit the water.
The names of the dead were withheld pending notification of relatives, authorities said.
The cause of the accident was under investigation.
