Jarvi picks up a job in Paris
Estonian American conductor Paavo Jarvi, music director of the Cincinnati Symphony, has been appointed music director of the Orchestre de Paris, beginning in 2010, the orchestra has announced.
The 44-year-old conductor will succeed Christoph Eschenbach, whose contract expires in 2010.
Jarvi’s contract in Cincinnati was extended last month through the 2010-11 season, after which it is supposed to automatically renew each season by mutual arrangement. He is also artistic director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Bremen, Germany, and principal conductor of the Frankfurt (Germany) Radio Symphony.
