30-, 15-year mortgage rates rise
Rates on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.42% this week, up slightly from 6.37% last week and the highest since the week of Sept. 14, when they averaged 6.43%, mortgage company Freddie Mac said.
Fifteen-year fixed-rate mortgages, a popular choice for refinancing, rose to 6.12%, up from 6.06% last week. Five-year adjustable-rate mortgages averaged 6.19%, up from 6.02%. One-year adjustable mortgages slipped to 5.57% from 5.64%.
The rates do not include add-on fees known as points. Thirty- and 15-year mortgages each carried a nationwide average fee of 0.4 of a point. Five-year adjustable mortgages carried a fee of 0.5 of a point, and one-year ARMs had a fee of 0.6 of a point.
