Colorado designates Finley for assignment
The Colorado Rockies designated outfielder Steve Finley for assignment and called up Sean Barker, also an outfielder, from triple-A Colorado Springs.
Finley, 42, was batting .181 in 43 games with one home run and two runs batted in. Finley, who has played for the Dodgers and Angels, is a two-time All-Star (1997 and 2000) and five-time Gold Glove Award winner (1995, 1996, 1999, 2000 and 2004). He was the oldest player in Rockies history.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner threw 31 pitches after warming up with seven throws. Before that, he threw on flat ground from 120 feet at the Mets’ spring training complex at Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Washington Nationals reliever Ryan Wagner is out for the season after surgery on a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. Wagner appeared in 14 games, going 0-2 with a 5.74 earned-run average.

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Sal Fasano left Tuesday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the eighth inning because of an undisclosed injury.

Pitcher Carl Pavano underwent surgery to repair the ulna collateral ligament in his right elbow, probably bringing his unproductive stint with the New York Yankees to an end.
