Police kill man wielding a knife
A police officer early Wednesday fatally shot a man who charged at officers with a butcher knife and refused to drop the weapon, authorities said.
Detrick Ludice Ford, 20, was killed about 12:30 a.m. in the 100 block of East 120th Street, said Capt. Ed Winter of the county coroner’s office.
Police responding to a 911 call about a man wielding an 8-inch knife ordered Ford to drop the knife and he refused, said LAPD Sgt. Lee Sands.
One of the officers then fired at least three rounds, he said. Neither officer was hurt.
The department’s Force Investigation Division is investigating the incident.
