Sailor killed in attack on oil tanker

Gunmen armed with dynamite assaulted a Chevron Corp. tanker in Nigeria’s southern oil-producing region, killing a Nigerian sailor and kidnapping an American oil worker and five other foreigners, authorities said.
The region’s main militant group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, claimed responsibility. Tope Idowu, a Chevron spokesman, said the kidnappers had made no demands.
Navy Capt. Obiora Medani said the sailor who was killed was a guard aboard a tanker off Bayelsa state.
