3 Iraqi journalists, driver slain in drive-by shooting
BAGHDAD — Three Iraqi journalists and their driver were killed Wednesday in a drive-by shooting near the northern city of Kirkuk.
Attackers opened fire with machine guns as they drove past the journalists’ vehicle, Police Brig. Gen. Sarhat Qadir said.
The four worked for the independent Raad media company, which publishes several generally pro-government weekly newspapers and monthly magazines that deal with politics, education and the arts.
The slain men were identified as Raad Mutashar, the company director; journalists Imad Abdul-Razzaq and Aqil Abdul-Qadir; and driver Nibras Razzaq.
The attack came six days after gunmen stormed the independent Radio Dijla in west Baghdad, killing two employees and wounding five; the next day the building was set on fire, knocking the station off the air.
The Committee to Protect Journalists says more than 100 journalists and 30 media support workers have been killed since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
