And the Next Best Thing Is . . .

Ha! Bravo is what I have to say to Howard Leff’s essay “If They Mention Voice-Over Work, It’s Just All Talk” (The Rules of Hollywood, April 29). Why do we feel the need to want the next best thing? As one person dreams of leaving a job as a freelance writer to pursue a possible cash-cow job doing voice-over work, someone like me dreams of leaving the corporate world to pursue freelance writing.

If I ever accomplish my dream, will I then be as happy as I suspect I’ll be, or will I want something more? I guess we’ll all just have to wait until we achieve our next goal to find out.
