Airstrike kills Tamil rebel political chief
From Times Wire Reports
Sri Lankan fighter jets bombed a rebel communications center, killing Tamil Tigers political chief S.P. Tamilselvan.
The separatist rebels, formally known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, announced in an e-mail that Tamilselvan had died and said he would be replaced by P. Nadesan, their police chief who was a delegate to peace talks.
The airstrike deep in northern rebel-held territory hit a compound used to communicate with Tamil contributors abroad, said an air force spokesman, Group Capt. Ajantha Silva.
