* at No. 6 Florida 49, Western Kentucky 3: Tim Tebow threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score, and the Gators opened defense of their national championship with a rout at Gainesville. The game was called with 8:23 left in the fourth quarter because of lightning. Tebow, who was 13 for 17, led Florida to touchdowns in its first four possessions.

* at No. 13 Georgia 35, Oklahoma State 14: Thomas Brown ran for two first-quarter touchdowns, Matthew Stafford threw two second-half scoring passes and the Bulldogs shut out the Cowboys in the second half at Athens.

* at No. 18 Auburn 23, Kansas State 13: Brandon Cox threw a touchdown pass to Gabe McKenzie with 2:01 left and Antonio Coleman returned a fumble for a score moments later to give the Tigers the win at Auburn, Ala.

* at No. 21 Arkansas 46, Troy 26: Darren McFadden started his Heisman Trophy campaign in style, running for 151 yards and a touchdown and also throwing a 42-yard touchdown pass in the Razorbacks’ victory at Fayetteville.

* at Alabama 52, Western Carolina 6: Terry Grant rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns in his first start and Crimson Tide opened the Nick Saban era with a fan-pleasing victory at Tuscaloosa. Quarterback John Parker Wilson completed 17 of 25 passes for 189 yards in less than three quarters.

* Mississippi 23, at Memphis 21: Dustin Mouzon returned one of his two interceptions 99 yards for a touchdown, and the Rebels stopped a potential score-tying two-point conversion with 31 seconds left.

* at South Carolina 28, Louisiana Lafayette 14: Cory Boyd ran for two touchdowns at Columbia, and Coach Steve Spurrier won his 15th straight college opener.

* at Kentucky 50, Eastern Kentucky 10: Andre Woodson threw for three touchdowns, including a 51-yarder, to lead the Wildcats at Lexington.

* at Vanderbilt 41, Richmond 17: Earl Bennett had 13 catches for a school-record 223 yards to lead the Commodores at Nashville.
