THE SOUTH’S GONNA RISE
For a few hours on Tuesday, the Drive-By Truckers (pictured) will magically relocate the Avalon Hollywood to somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon line. Joined by kindred spirits the North Mississippi Allstars, the show promises to be long on down-home, guitar-driven fireworks, short on urban artifice, particularly given the qualities the Truckers have shown on their new record. “Brighter Than Creation’s Dark” is more nuanced and at least a third less dude-centric than past releases (with the rise of third vocalist-songwriter Shonna Tucker). Fans who thought Southern rock died with Ronnie Van Zant in 1977 would do well to bear witness. 7 p.m. Tue., the Avalon. $25 (323) 462-8900
