LSU topples Tennessee women
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Sylvia Fowles had 17 points and 14 rebounds and No. 7 Louisiana State grabbed the Southeastern Conference lead with a 78-62 win over top-ranked Tennessee on Thursday night.
LSU (21-3, 10-0 SEC) remains the only SEC team without a conference loss.
Candace Parker had 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Vols (22-2, 8-1), who held a 33-30 halftime lead, but quickly lost it on a 5-1 LSU run.
LSU shot 60% during the second half compared to Tennessee’s 28.6%. The Lady Tigers also took advantage of 17 Tennessee fouls in the second half, making 17 of 26 at the line.
It was Tennessee’s worst loss since it fell, 75-53, to Duke on Jan. 23, 2006, and the first loss at home for the Lady Vols since a 74-70 setback against Duke on Jan. 22, 2007.
