A plug for Cable Guy; a blast from the VHS past

We’re not afraid to talk about: The potential comic genius of Larry the Cable Guy. This week, Larry the Cable Guy follows his movie about paintball players who wind up in Mexico and think they are in Iraq (“Delta Farce”) with a film called “Witless Protection.” This one is about a man who interrupts a “kidnapping” that is actually FBI agents escorting a witness to a trial. We have never seen Larry the Cable Guy in action, but we may end that streak this week. (Friday)

We can’t wait to talk about: “Be Kind Rewind.” At the risk of sounding like exactly what we are -- entertainment journalists who generally prefer our comedies not mainstream -- we will admit that we’ve been salivating over “Be Kind Rewind” ever since we heard about it. Michel Gondry’s low-tech creative weirdness, Jack Black’s distinctive physical comedy, Mos Def’s mellowness all in the service of a movie about people who make homegrown movies -- we can’t wait! (Friday)

Your car might talk about: The “Knight Rider” sequel. We may have missed the advertising blitz for this two-hour “Knight Rider” sequel coming to NBC tonight. Or perhaps there hasn’t been a blitz? And then what does that tell us? Here’s what we know: David Hasselhoff will make a special appearance, KITT will be played by a customized Ford Mustang and voiced by Will Arnett, of all people. Fun! (Tonight)

You could talk about: “My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad.” We do not have the heart to even contemplate watching this show, which pits fathers against one another in tests of smarts, brawn and how well they know their kids. NBC describes it as “hilarious.” We think it’s kind of sick. (Monday)

And why not talk about: “Lust, Caution.” Ang Lee’s steamy film comes out on DVD this week in two versions -- the NC-17 one that was released in theaters and the rated-R version, just four minutes shorter. But who can resist finding out what happens in those four minutes? (Tuesday)
