WINE SCHOOL
“An incredible amount of restaurant guests are really hungry to learn about wine,” says Wilshire Restaurant’s sommelier Matt Straus, pictured. That interest spurred him to develop a series of wine seminars for aspiring oenophiles. On Sunday, Straus will give a $65 “Wine Fundamentals” class in which he’ll imbue participants with the same knowledge he gives the restaurant’s servers when they are hired. “If you have these basic building blocks, you’ll be ready to go out and conquer all sorts of other territory,” says Straus. Namely, his three remaining seminars: “French White Wines” (March 2), “French Red Wines” (March 16) and “Aged Wines, Cellaring and Collecting” (March 23). 2454 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, (310) 586-1707
