N.Y. Rangers 4, at Carolina 2: Brandon Dubinsky and Sean Avery scored first-period goals to lift the Rangers to their third victory in a row and sixth in eight games (6-0-2).
at Boston 5, Pittsburgh 1: Tim Thomas stopped 27 shots, Marco Sturm scored twice to reach 200 NHL goals and the Bruins topped the Penguins for their fifth consecutive victory.
at Philadelphia 3, Ottawa 1: Mike Knuble scored twice to spoil Bryan Murray’s return behind the Senators’ bench and lead the Flyers over Ottawa.
N.Y. Islanders 5, at Atlanta 4 (OT): Trent Hunter scored in overtime and the Islanders recovered after blowing a three-goal lead to beat the slumping Thrashers.
Phoenix 2, at St. Louis 1: Ilya Bryzgalov made 41 saves and the Coyotes won at St. Louis for the sixth time in a row. The Blues dropped their fifth consecutive game.
at Dallas 7, Chicago 4: Brad Richards had a career-high five points -- all on assists -- and set up linemate Niklas Hagman’s first NHL hat trick. Richards was acquired earlier in the week in a trade with Tampa Bay.
at Edmonton 5, Kings 4: The Oilers won their third in a row.
