Reassured, Russia loans London its art

Russia authorized four museums to send artworks to London for an exhibition opening Jan. 26 after canceling the show last month over concerns that pictures might be seized.
Russian authorities said on Dec. 19 that the United Kingdom didn’t offer sufficient guarantees to protect the pictures against confiscation. To address those concerns, the British government on Dec. 30 enacted a law protecting artworks loaned from abroad against third-party seizure.
The exhibition consists of artworks from the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, all in Moscow.
