Driver arrested in fatal crash

Los Angeles police Saturday arrested an Inglewood man believed to be the driver of a Jaguar involved in a five-car, high-speed crash Friday night in which two people died in Baldwin Village.
German Maximo, 22, was arrested at his home on suspicion of felony hit and run. He “fled the scene without rendering aid,” said Los Angeles Police Officer Norma Eisenman.
In addition to the dead, at least one person was in critical condition and others in the cars -- she did not know how many -- were injured, she said.
About 11:15 p.m. Friday, the driver of a black 2000 Jaguar was heading south on La Brea Avenue near Westhaven Street when the car veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a gray 2000 Mitsubishi Galant, Eisenman said.
Two of the Mitsubishi’s four passengers were killed on impact, Eisenman said. The driver was treated at a hospital and released, and another passenger was in critical condition, she said. Passengers in three other vehicles suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, Eisenman said.
