Drug suspect pleads guilty

A former top Colombian paramilitary commander pleaded guilty to conspiring to smuggle tons of cocaine into the United States, U.S. prosecutors said.

Diego Fernando Murillo Bejarano, 47, pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court after Colombia’s decision to extradite him and 13 other paramilitary leaders in May. He faces up to 33 years in prison.

Meanwhile, U.S. prosecutors said the brother of jailed Colombian drug kingpin Diego Montoya has been extradited to the United States to face drug trafficking and money laundering charges. Eugenio Montoya Sanchez appeared in court in Miami.
