THIS WEEK: SPA FOOD
There are two kinds of menus at these spas: one for soothing bodily ills and another that furthers restoration from the inside out. Eat well.
SPA LUCE
Next to the pool deck under Hollywood & Highland’s faux Babylonian arch, this newly opened spa serves up cold plates such as quinoa salad and twin melon soup. Relax during the hammam ritual that features a Moroccan mint tea and clay cleanse and a coffee and olive stone scrub. Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, Level 5, 1755 N. Highland Ave., (323) 491-1376
SONYA DAKAR SKIN CLINIC
Healthful and organic treats here incorporate some of the same ingredients found in skin care maven Sonya Dakar’s botanical-based products such as flaxseed, lavender and acai (Brazil’s purple palm tree berry). After a smoothing “facial fitness” treatment, try the mixed greens and berry salad drizzled with yogurt and crumbled granola. 9975 S. Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills, (310) 553-7344
VODA
West Hollywood’s mod day spa features traditional Russian banyas (both a wet and dry heat sauna) and the invigorating platza massage. There are co-ed and men- or women-only days. Relax after a cold plunge with a fresh-squeezed blend of cranberry and raspberry juice upstairs or a substantial chicken panini at the in-house cafe. 7700 Santa Monica Blvd., (323) 654-4411
NATURA SPA
Soak, sauna and have a skin-softening akasuri scrub at either the men’s or women’s traditionally styled Korean bathhouse in the basement of the former I. Magnin. Sweat even more toxins out while slurping a steaming bowl of chicken ginseng soup (sam gye tang). Chicken, medicinal herbs, garlic, dates and ginseng root equal a nutrient replenishing broth. 3240 Wilshire Blvd., Koreatown, (213) 381-2288
THE SPA AT FOUR SEASONS HOTEL WESTLAKE VILLAGE
Book a Wellness Kitchen class at the adjoining California Health & Longevity Institute and learn how to make your own healthful dishes such as an antioxidant-rich butter lettuce salad, dressed simply in shallot vinaigrette and brimming with sliced veggies. Follow with the signature Thai massage in the prettiest of spa rooms. Two Dole Drive, Westlake Village, (818) 575-3010
