Re “Renowned teacher makes South L.A. his own final exam,” Column One, June 21
I had the privilege of being one of English teacher Phil Holmes’ students in the mid-1980s. The first day of class, he growled at us, “By the end of the day, you’ll fear me; by the end of the week, you’ll hate me; by the end of the year, you’ll love me.”
Correct, correct, correct.
