O’Day is among call-ups

With major league rosters expanding to 40 players for the final month of the season, the Angels on Monday recalled right-handers Darren O’Day and Dustin Moseley and catcher Ryan Budde from their triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake City.

All three players had time with the team earlier this season and are expected to be in uniform tonight when the Angels begin a six-game trip in Detroit.

O’Day, who made the opening-day roster, pitched in 27 games in relief for the Angels, going 0-1 with a 4.34 earned-run average in 37 1/3 innings. At Salt Lake he was 2-2 with seven saves and a 3.27 ERA in 21 appearances.

Moseley, who also made the team out of spring training, made five starts in April, going 1-2, before going to the bullpen. Overall, he was 1-3 with a 7.15 ERA in 34 innings while he was 7-10 with a 6.94 ERA in the minors.

Budde, a solid defensive catcher, played in six games for the Angels in July but batted only twice. He’s three for 20 in his big league career and hit .202 in 48 games at Salt Lake. But his presence will give Angel Manager Mike Scioscia more flexibility with regular catchers Mike Napoli and Jeff Mathis, allowing him to use them as pinch-hitters and also rest them more frequently down the stretch.

Scioscia said last week he plans to use both pitchers out of the bullpen.
