* at Boston 5, Baltimore 4: Dustin Pedroia homered in the seventh inning to begin the Red Sox’s comeback from a four-run deficit. Orioles pitcher Jim Miller threw away a bunt for a game-ending error. Boston swept the three-game series.
* Chicago 4, at Cleveland 2: Nick Swisher and Alexi Ramirez homered to help the White Sox avert a three-game sweep. Javier Vazquez gave up two runs in six innings and Bobby Jenks recorded the last five outs for his 28th save.
* at Toronto 5, Minnesota 4 (11 innings): John McDonald singled home the go-ahead run in the 11th inning for the Blue Jays, who posted their eighth straight victory over Minnesota. The Twins lost for the eighth time in 11 games.
* at Texas 1, Seattle 0: Rangers’ fill-in starter Dustin Nippert gave up seven hits in seven innings and Milton Bradley hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning for the game’s only run. Frank Francisco pitched the ninth for his fourth consecutive save since taking over as closer last week.
* New York 8, at Tampa Bay 4: Alex Rodriguez went three for four and drove in four runs, including a towering two-run home run in the ninth inning that was upheld in baseball’s first use of instant replay.
* Oakland at Kansas City, ppd.: The game was postponed because of rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
* at Detroit 9, Angels 6: Placido Polanco had three hits and drove in three runs for the Tigers, who won for only the third time in 10 games.
