* at Chicago 6, Toronto 5: Mark Buehrle outpitched Roy Halladay and the White Sox stopped the Blue Jays’ 10-game winning streak. Toronto fell one victory short of tying the longest winning streak in team history, set in 1987 and matched in 1998.
* at Minnesota 7, Kansas City 1: Kevin Slowey gave up four hits over seven innings and kept the Twins one game behind the White Sox in the Central. The Twins notched consecutive wins for the first time in nearly three weeks.
* Cleveland 7, at Baltimore 1: Scott Lewis gave up three hits over eight shutout innings in his major league debut. Kelly Shoppach hit two solo homers and scored three runs for the Indians.
* at Seattle 8, Texas 7: Ichiro Suzuki and Raul Ibanez had four hits apiece for the Mariners. Suzuki moved to within 10 hits of an eighth straight season with at least 200 hits.
* Oakland 5, at Detroit 2: Ryan Sweeney and Jack Cust hit consecutive homers in the first inning and Sean Gallagher came off the disabled list to pitch four hitless innings for the Athletics.
* Tampa Bay 4, at Boston 2 (14 innings): Carlos Pena hit a three-run homer in the 14th inning and the Rays increased their division edge to 2 1/2 games over Boston.
* at Angels 4, New York 2: The Angels became the first team in the majors to clinch a playoff spot, winning their fourth AL West title in five seasons.
