Charming La Veta

We recommend La Veta, Colo., on State Highway 12, a charming town of about 900 in the southeast part of the state. A steam-powered locomotive takes tourists from Alamosa to La Veta for the day.
There are gorgeous views of the Spanish Peaks. This year, the Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival is Sept. 26 to 28.
