* at Tampa Bay 2, Boston 1: Dioner Navarro singled with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning, enabling the Rays to remain in first place in the AL East. Dan Wheeler (5-5) struck out the only batter he faced to bail Tampa Bay out of a ninth-inning jam, as the defending World Series champions lost for the seventh time in eight games at Tropicana Field this season.
* Chicago 6, at New York 2: Gavin Floyd pitched seven gritty innings and Paul Konerko had two hits and a run batted in in his return from a knee injury as the White Sox increased their AL Central lead to 2 1/2 games. Derek Jeter got his 1,270th hit at soon-to-close Yankee Stadium to pass Lou Gehrig for first place.
* Baltimore 2, at Toronto 0: Chris Waters threw a four-hit shutout and Luke Scott homered as the Blue Jays lost their third straight game.
* at Texas 5, Detroit 4: Marlon Byrd hit a two-run triple in the ninth inning and scored the winning run on Chris Davis’ single as the Rangers rallied to hand the Tigers their sixth loss in a row.
* at Kansas City 6, Seattle 3: Ryan Shealy, John Buck and David DeJesus homered as the Royals won their fifth in a row. The Mariners are 0-6 to start an 11-game, three-city trip and have lost 10 of their last 13.
* at Cleveland 12, Minnesota 9 (11 innings): Victor Martinez’s game-winning, three-run homer in the 11th inning was a blow to the Twins’ playoff hopes.
* at Oakland 8, Angels 1: The A’s handed the Angels their first loss since they clinched the AL West last week.
