Green Bay’s Harris may be sidelined

Green Bay Packers cornerback Al Harris underwent additional medical tests Monday amid a report he might have ruptured his spleen in Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The National Football Post, a website that lists Harris’ agent as a contributor, reported that the injury could end Harris’ season, but Harris was seeking a second opinion. Agent Jack Bechta did not immediately return a message from the Associated Press.

New Orleans tight end Jeremy Shockey is expected to be out for three to six weeks because of a sports hernia, which is in the abdominal wall.

Cleveland Browns Coach Romeo Crennel said he was considering changes, including getting Brady Quinn ready to go if starting quarterback Derek Anderson continued to struggle.

Kicked in the left leg during a weekend victory over Arizona, Washington Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor underwent a 20-minute emergency procedure and will miss Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. . . . Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has a strained ankle and is day to day. . . . Bills starting fullback Darian Barnes will have tests on his injured right foot, leaving his status uncertain for Buffalo’s game at St. Louis. . . . Carolina Panthers linebacker Dan Connor will miss the rest of the season because a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. . . . Bill Ford Jr., vice chairman of the Detroit Lions, said he didn’t have the authority to make the change but he thought that club President Matt Millen should leave the team.

Cougars to use freshman quarterback

Washington State fifth-year quarterback Gary Rogers walked out of the hospital under his own power after suffering a broken neck in Saturday’s game, but his football career is expected to be over, and freshman quarterback Marshall Lobbestael may get his first start.

Ball State officials said that wide receiver Dante Love was able to move his arms and legs after five hours of surgery over the weekend, but his football career is expected to be over after he suffered a spinal cord injury Saturday, Coach Brady Hoke said.

North Carolina quarterback T.J. Yates will be out at least six weeks because of a broken left ankle he injured on a sack in Saturday’s game.

Prosecutors will review police reports before deciding whether to file formal charges against Notre Dame tight end Will Yeatman, 20, and center Mike Golic Jr., 18, son of an ESPN television host. They were among nearly 40 people arrested at a weekend party on suspicion of alcohol consumption by a minor.

Silver Stars, Liberty advance

The WNBA’s top-seeded San Antonio Silver Stars wasted a 12-point lead in the last six minutes of regulation but held on to beat the visiting Sacramento Monarchs, 86-81, in overtime in the deciding Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal series; and the third-seeded New York Liberty beat the second-seeded Connecticut Sun, 66-62, at Uncasville, Conn., in the deciding Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series as rookie Essence Carson scored 15 points.

Washington Mystics General Manager Linda Hargrove was fired after a 10-24 season.

Sacramento Kings forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim, 31, retired because of a persistent right knee injury after playing 12 NBA seasons and averaging 18.1 points in his career. . . . The Washington Wizards picked up a one-year option for Coach Eddie Jordan, keeping him under contract through the 2009-10 season. . . . The Phoenix Suns signed Slovenian point guard Goran Dragic to a multiyear contract.

Noel Johnson to commit to USC

Noel Johnson, a 6-foot-7 guard from Fayetteville, Ga., will commit to the USC basketball team, according to his father, former NBA player Cheese Johnson. Noel, who is expected to make a formal announcement today, was ranked among the top 40 prospects in the nation by Rivals.com. He had visited campus with his family and godfather Xavier McDaniel, another NBA veteran.

A memorial service for Boron High’s Vinnie Rodriguez will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the school gym, Bobcats Athletic Director Jim Boghosian said. Rodriguez died Sept. 16 from head injuries sustained in a game four days earlier. Boron’s game against L.A. Ribet Academy on Friday has been moved from Los Angeles to Boron and will start at 7 p.m., Boghosian said.
