Claim filed in police shooting
A $25-million wrongful-death claim was filed against Inglewood this week on behalf of the 23-month-old daughter of a postal worker who was shot and killed by an Inglewood police officer.
Kevin Wicks, 38, was fatally shot in July by Officer Brian Ragan, who was involved in another police shooting earlier this year.
Monday’s claim was filed on behalf of Kori Emon Wicks by her mother, Kenya Carter. The city has 45 days to reject the claim, which will clear the way for a lawsuit to be filed against the city.
In addition, a wrongful-death claim has been filed on behalf of Wicks’ other daughter, 11-year-old Milan Wicks. Kevin Wicks’ parents have also filed lawsuits against the city in federal court.
