Televisa in deal with Telemundo
Grupo Televisa, Mexico’s biggest broadcaster, signaled a switch from U.S. distribution partner Univision Communications Inc. after it agreed to let Telemundo carry Mexican league soccer games in the U.S., a Banco Santander analyst said.
The agreement with Hialeah, Fla.-based Telemundo, controlled by General Electric Co., shows that Televisa is seeking an alternative, analyst Gregorio Tomassi wrote in a report. Televisa’s 2006 lawsuit to end New York-based Univision’s agreement to carry its programs in the U.S. is scheduled to be heard in a U.S. court Jan. 6 after two delays this year.
Univision may challenge the agreement, Tomassi wrote.
