PITTSBURGH — Andrew McCutchen hit three home runs and drove in a career-high six runs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Washington Nationals, 11-6, Saturday night.
McCutchen, a rookie, doubled his home run total. He singled and scored on Lastings Milledge’s two-run double in the third inning and finished four for five with four runs.
McCutchen became the first Pirate to hit three home runs in a game since Aramis Ramirez on April 8, 2001, at Houston. McCutchen is the 10th Pirate to hit three home runs in a game. It has now happened 17 times in club history.
