CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / INDUSTRY
The alleged orchestrator of an illegal cockfight was arrested after an anonymous tip allowed Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies to break up the sporting event that featured nearly four dozen birds, authorities said Sunday.
The fight was to occur Saturday night in a vacant building in the 21400 block of Ferrero Parkway when officers came upon a ring, spurs and 44 birds about 9:40 p.m., said Sgt. James Beamon of the sheriff’s Industry station.
Mauro R. Jara, 38, who allegedly arranged the location, was arrested, Beamon said. Bail was set at $20,000.
