Warner Music Group Corp. and independent song publishers sued two companies operating websites that they said provided lyrics without compensating the artists who created them.
Warner Music’s Warner/Chappell unit, along with Peermusic, a family-owned music publisher, and closely held Bug Music Inc. filed lawsuits against LiveUniverse Inc. in a federal court in Los Angeles and Motive Force in a federal court in Pittsburgh, according to the National Music Publishers Assn., a trade group.
